Seabreeze Carousel
This carousel
is the most beautiful I have ever visited. The park has a long
and interesting history. The carousel was completely rebuilt from scratch after
a tragic fire, and features detailed paintwork unlike any I have ever seen. At
many carousels, the painters simply put flat colours on the animals, making the
sculptures flat and lifeless. Here, it is as though the artists looked upon the
horses as canvases and poured their creativity across the three-dimensional
surface, lending them an incredibly rich and lifelike appearance. I particularly like this gray stander with
the sleeping cherub and stars. As I have a sleep disorder, the
symbolism is sweet and restful.
I hope to revisit soon, now that I have a much better
camera, and
take some better quality pictures of the Seabreeze Carousel. In the meantime, check
out their website - it has hours, rates and a history of the park, which
dates back to 1879.
