One of my favorite things ...
Cirque du Soleil
(more of my
favorite things)
I first saw "O" and "Mystere" in Las Vegas
at the 1999 Comdex. "These shows are a reviewer's nightmare,"
I wrote
at the time, "because any superlatives you come up with can't possibly do
justice to the spectacle you are describing."
If you have never seen Cirque, it is a
combination of theatre, street performance and classic circus performance. There
are no animals - just acrobats and clowns of great range and skill, brilliant
costumes and awesome music. "O" is a unique show in that the stage is
a gigantic pool which hides a half-moon stage on hydraulic lifts. One moment,
dancers are prancing across a solid platform, the next, acrobats are diving from
the ceiling into a giant pool of water. It's like nothing you've ever seen!
