Visitors to Jasmine's Gallery often ask me what
inspires me in my artwork, and what my interests are. I have noticed the theme
of fantasy and escape from reality does tend to run strongly through the list
(No surprise since the rising planet in my astrological chart is Neptune) ...
and it's such a varied, eclectic bunch of things that I thought it might be fun
to do mini-pages devoted to some of the artists and interests that inspire me.

Cirque du Soliel - I just heard that
Cirque was nominated for a Governor General Award! I saw Cirque's "O"
and "Mystere" in Las Vegas in 1999 - they were one of the few moments
I can remember being so wrapped up in what I was seeing that I totally lost
track of all other reality for the duration of the show.
Elfquest - Wendy and Richard Pini
created a long-running graphic novel ("comic book") that I was a great
fan of in my teens and twenties - I can't afford to keep up with it now, but
Wendy's artwork is elegant and the story-telling is brilliant. I consider Wendy
to be one of the artists who has had the biggest influence on my fantasy work. It's worth
looking at www.elfquest.com if you are not
familiar with this fantasy classic.
Royal Canadian Air
Farce - May the Farce be with you! If you aren't Canadian, you still
will get a kick out of one of our national treasures. The Farce has been
entertaining Canadians - and poking holes in our sacred cows - for over 25 years
now.
Star
Wars - I remember being so stunned by Star Wars when I first saw it that I was
literally shaking when I left the theatre. To this day I maintain quite a
collection of the books and look forward with great anticipation to future
instalments.
