One
of my favorite things ...
Royal Canadian Air Farce
(more
of my favorite things)
The
Royal Canadian Air Farce is one of the great jewels in the crown of Canadian
comedy, and one of my favourite TV shows. The original funny foursome (from left to right: Don
Ferguson, John Morgan, Roger Abbott and Luba Goy).
John Morgan passed away, and the Farce
introduced a new fourth permanent cast
member, Jessica
Holmes.
My feeling when I first "discovered" the Air Farce was that these
people were "for real" ... and when I got to go to a few tapings a
couple years ago, and asked for permission to put up this page, I discovered how true that
was. They treated me with dignity and kindness that I won't forget. The Farce is
a national Canadian treasure!

The Confused Philosopher
This guy asks the questions that no-one
ever thought to ask ... like "If corn oil is made out of corn, what
is baby oil made out of?" ... "Who
said that? ... why are you looking at me?"
(Don Ferguson)

Heikki Flergenpootz and
Svetlana ... doing "English as a Second Language News"
Heikki never seems to get the words right
and Svetlana is a few fruits low of a basket. My favourite is their guest
commentator - The Curse-Giving Sheppard!
(Luba Goy & Roger Abbott)
"News from Away" with
Jimmy and Seamus O'Toole
"'Ow's she goin', moy trout?"
Newfoundlanders Jimmy and Seamus poke not-so-gentle fun at the newsmakers
of the day, and at the end of each "News From Away", Jimmy and
Seamus sing a little ditty to take the air out of them.
(Roger Abbott & Don Ferguson)
Brenda the
Bingo Lady
Who doesn't know someone like Brenda?
Every neighborhood in Canada has one chain-smoking, wise-cracking broad
who would rather play Bingo than have sex. It's a law or something.
Brenda's main food groups and coffee and cigarettes, she rules the
Bingo Hall, and she's not gonna let anyone forget it.
(Luba Goy)
... everyone's favourite macho military
man, Colonel Stacy (some of his close friends call him Teresa), guardian
of the Chicken
Cannon, Canada's Ultimate Weapon! Every week, Colonel Stacy and his
trusted legion pack the cannon with an assortment of squishy goodies and
aim it at politicians, greedy corporations, hyped-up celebrities and other
evil-doo-ers suggested by audience members.
