Staci's Place: No More Bullies!
"If you want to learn to love better, you
should start with a friend who you hate," Nikka - age 6
"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to
instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those
who think differently." Frederich Nietzsche, German Philosopher
Once
upon a time a little girl who was bullied decided that it was too painful
to go on. Like many other bullied children, she was scared and tired and
felt alone. One day she decided that rather than do harm to herself and
others, she would give up her identity and build a new life. She changed
her name and moved far away from home.
For many years she carried on with a new
name, doing her best to forget the past, and to stuff down her feelings.
She got so good at that, that she forgot most of her childhood. All she
ever felt was a strange, aching hole in her chest.
At the darkest time in her life, some
kind
angels came along and helped the girl who once was Staci to realize
that the pain in her life came from her past. And she realized sadly that
like everyone else, she had abandoned little Staci.
Maybe little Staci can't come back now ... too
much has changed. But you and I can remember her by reaching out to
prevent bullying and peer abuse. This page is dedicated to that cause. If
you run an anti-bullying page, and want to use the "No Bullies"
logo on your site, feel free to use it, all I ask is you link back to this
page.
My name is Brandi Jasmine. I am an adult
survivor of bullying, also known as peer abuse. In my school system, in
Burnaby BC Canada, there was (and to all accounts still is) a very
casual attitude towards child to child abuse. I volunteer my time to
track cases of bullying, and have put together this website to help
parents, target children, and adult survivors of bullying better
understand peer abuse issues.
I highly recommend that everyone on all
sides of the anti-abuse movement check out Ross Quinn's new book
Controlling
Others for Love and Profit. This book is not about bullying or peer
abuse per se ... but I believe it contains the first step of the solution.
We can't stop the bullying until we change the culture that tolerates
abuse. We can't change all of "them", but we can change
ourselves.
The principals taught in
Controlling
Others for Love and Profit are reinforced by attending
Ross's
seminars.
When I attended the
The
QuinnTessential Experience (TQE) New Perspectives Seminar, I did not realize that so much of my unhappiness came
from my history as a bullying survivor. TQE so powerfully changed
my life, and the lives of fellow students that I came to believe that it
could be a profound tool for dealing with systemic bullying in schools
(even though the impact is so much broader than that). I hope that one
day, these tools, techniques and ideas will be taught in all schools. This
could be the "missing piece" in anti-bullying efforts, and
it will have a hugely positive impact on many other areas of attendee's
lives.
If you would like to arrange for Ross to
speak at your school or workplace, please
contact
Ross.
