Staci's Place: No More Bullies!
Cyberbullying Advice and Tips
What do I do if I am being bullied online?
Child
to Child Peer Abuse almost always starts in school, but not always.
Preventing Online Bullying
It is very important that you do NOT post
personal information about yourself on blogs or discussion groups. You
may be shocked how much you give away without thinking. Never give out
your address, last name, address, or even the city you live in, without
getting permission from your parents. One of the first mistakes I made
online was putting my phone number on a bulletin board, a mistake I will
never repeat. I was treated to a week of verbal harassment over the
phone which only ended when I left the group.
Avoid getting involved in intense arguments
in discussion groups. It's okay to go and argue if you want to - just be
aware that some people do not understand the difference between argument and
abuse, and if you go looking for a fight, you are going to get one.
If you participate in discussion groups,
look for groups that are moderated, ideally those that have all messages
approved by an adult before they are posted. Find out what the group's abuse
policies are. If they say things like "unmoderated" or "anything goes" avoid
them.
